The Department of Environmental Protection's Ochlockonee
River State Park, Florida is hosting the Second Annual Stone Age and
Primitive Arts Festival
Visitors will experience 'hands-on' learning, as experts demonstrate
techniques that were used thousands of years ago in day to day life. Visitors
will also see projectile point fashioning, also known as flint-knapping, the
art of chipping stone into tools, bow and arrow construction, basket weaving,
early pottery methods and much more. According to archeological research, Ochlockonee
River's rich history of
human interacting with nature goes back 12,000 years.

Berg of Thunderbird Atlatl will teach you modern and traditional techniques
of atlatl and dart construction, flint knapping, hafting stone points, and
cordage making. Enjoy atlatl lore and coaching on the use of your new atlatl.
Bob has taught primitive skills and the atlatl for 17 years. This is his 14th
year at Chimney Point. $65 fee includes instruction and all materials.

Blackwater Draw, New Mexico
The site is located along the road to Cannon Air Force Base (State
Highway 467), about 6 miles north of Portales and 1 mile north of the turn to
Oasis State Park. Registration and practice will start at 9:00 AM, with the
Target Round begins at 10:00. The ISAC round will take place in the
afternoon.
There will also be a flint-working demonstration and possibly other
primitive skills at the site.
